How to Update the DL Mobile Number
- Open Sarathi and select the state connected with the DL.
- Open Others.
- Select Mobile Number Update.
- Choose the relevant record/service type shown.
- Enter the DL and identity details requested.
- Complete the official verification flow.
- Enter and confirm the new mobile number.
- Save the acknowledgement or success message.
Labels and the verification method can differ by state or portal version.
If You Do Not Have the Old Mobile Number
Follow the identity route the official page offers. If it insists on verification that you cannot complete or the data does not match, contact/visit the concerned RTO with identity and DL evidence. Do not let an agent register their own number on your licence.
OTP Not Received
- Confirm the displayed/new number is correct.
- Check network/SMS filtering and wait before requesting another OTP.
- Avoid rapid repeated requests that can trigger a temporary limit.
- Verify that identity details match the DL record.
- Try the official service later if it is unavailable.
- Contact the RTO when the portal is trying to verify an inaccessible or incorrect stored number.
Why the Update Matters
The linked number can support official OTPs and application communication. But it is not a public licence-search key and does not by itself change name, DOB, address or DigiLocker credentials.

Can I download a DL using only the updated mobile number?
No universal DL-download route uses only a mobile number. Official services still rely on DL/application and identity details.
Will this change my Aadhaar-linked mobile number?
No. Aadhaar and Sarathi are separate records. Update Aadhaar through its own authorised process.
Is there a fee for mobile update?
Use the amount, if any, shown by the official workflow. Do not pay a third party merely for access to the public service.
Can I update the mobile number for someone else?
Only use a record you are authorised to manage and complete the holder's official identity verification. Never intercept or solicit another person's OTP.
