Before You Apply
Compare the incorrect DL with the authoritative supporting document. Decide whether the transport record is wrong or the other document is wrong. If Aadhaar and passport disagree, merely trying each in e-KYC can create more mismatches; correct the appropriate source first.
How to Request a Correction
- Select the state holding the DL record on Sarathi.
- Open Services on Driving Licence.
- Retrieve the licence using DL number and DOB.
- Choose the available name/address/replacement/correction-related service.
- Enter the corrected value exactly as supported by evidence.
- Upload only the documents requested.
- Pay the generated fee if applicable.
- Attend any biometric/original-document verification.
- Save the application number and track objections/approval.
- Refetch the digital document after the source record updates.
If the needed field is not offered, contact the concerned RTO. A public help page cannot override the authority's correction rules.
Correction in a Pending Application
The available action depends on stage:
- Before final submission, the form may allow editing.
- After submission but before scrutiny, an application edit service may be available.
- After objection, re-upload or correction may be specifically requested.
- After approval/issue, use a service on the issued licence.
- A cancelled “ghost” application may need closure by the RTO before a new service works.
Do not start repeated applications until the status of the first one is known.
DigiLocker or mParivahan Still Shows the Old Detail
- Confirm the correction application is approved.
- Check the source DL status/details.
- Allow the connected system to synchronise.
- Remove/refetch or refresh the issued/Virtual DL through the official app.
- Contact the authority if the source is correct but the connected record remains stale.
Uploading a corrected scan to DigiLocker produces an uploaded file, not a corrected issuer document.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I correct the DL using Aadhaar alone?
Identity/e-KYC can support a workflow, but the accepted evidence and scrutiny depend on the field and state. Aadhaar does not automatically rewrite the DL.
Can I change my DOB online?
Some corrections can begin online, but sensitive identity fields may require authority verification. Use the service exposed by the state/RTO.
Is correction the same as duplicate DL?
No. A duplicate replaces the card/record output after loss or damage; correction changes incorrect source particulars, sometimes alongside replacement issuance.
Should I edit the downloaded PDF while waiting?
No. An edited document is not an authority-issued correction and can invalidate verification.
